God Hikes Gave Me Some Good Stuff . . . Just Not for You

I’ve had some great hiking trips living in Colorado, but the best ones were when I left my phone at home. Those hikes always feel more freeing because I’m not distracted by technology or people pulling at my time and feel like more of a “God hike” where I give Him my full attention. I honestly believe those trips give me a kind of reset, helping me clear out all the noise and distractions of life.

I remember one hike where God showed me some important things about my life. He made me realize that I often try to turn the stuff He shares with me — things meant just for me — into posts for Instagram, Facebook, or blogs. That moment hit me hard: everything God shares with us isn’t meant for everyone to see. But the things He reveals are for me to use in the right way — to help me when I need to help others or to grow closer to Him.

Maybe you’re like me — you find it hard to stay off your phone or social media. With AI doing more and integrating into all our devices, it’s even harder to keep digital distractions away from everyday life and our walk with God. We need to develop discipline to make a break from the things that can distract us and cause us to drift in our walk with God. And when God shows us something spectacular that seems like it would be of benefit to someone else, pray about IF it should be shared. Those moments where God shares “the good stuff” are for us FIRST and not just to increase our digital followings.

So, yeah, God showed me a lot during those hikes, but none of it was for you. It was all for me — to make me a better man, son, brother, and husband. And honestly, those lessons help me be a better citizen of this earth and help me learn to listen and obey God better, so I can love others even more.

Remember, you can have that same relationship with Jesus. No matter what you’ve done or where you’re from, He wants to talk to you. It’s as simple as reaching out and saying, “I’m here, God. Speak to me.”
