Reading List to Wrap Up Summer

I know as guys that sometimes it can be hard to commit to reading and not just scrolling our phones or other distractions, but I think each of these books I am recommending have relatively short chapters, great information, and range from personal growth to fine tuning of leadership skills, to just fun reading.

Personal Growth Recommendation: Unoffendable by Brant Hansen

I did a review of this book in season 3 episode 13 of Man360 that you can check out if you want a more full review of the book, but this book is probably one of the most challenging books I have ever read because it challenges you in your everyday interactions in life. With family, friends, strangers, church members, those you love and those who are challenges. We live in an easily offended world and this book challenges readers to make a conscious decision to live “unoffended”. It addresses things like being able to address things like injustice better by not coming from a perspective of anger.

Ledership Development: Eric Metaxis

7 Men and the Secret of their Greatness - Read maybe 10 years ago

The book gives a short biographical account of seven men through history and the choices they made that cut against the view of worldly success through standing up for spiritual values. It also has some great points to consider and personal challenges for men.

The men highlighted;

  • George Washington:
The first president of the United States, known for his refusal to become a king and his dedication to national unity.

  • William Wilberforce:
A prominent figure in the abolitionist movement, who dedicated his life to ending the slave trade in Britain.

  • Eric Liddell:
An Olympic runner who chose to uphold his religious principles by foregoing an almost certain gold medal.

  • Dietrich Bonhoeffer:
A German pastor who actively resisted the Nazi regime and was eventually executed for his faith.

  • Jackie Robinson:
A legendary baseball player who broke the color barrier and faced racial discrimination with dignity and grace.

  • John Paul II:
The Pope who led the Catholic Church through a turbulent period and promoted a message of hope and reconciliation.

  • Charles Colson:
A former Nixon aide who became a Christian and dedicated his life to prison ministry and social reform

The thing I liked most about this book is that it talks about very famous people in the course of history but the basic Biblical principles that they stood on in their stories are things that you and I can implement and see Godly results.

Fun Read Recommendation: Chronicles of the Nephilim series

Noah Primeval by Brian Godawa
First book of 8 that are fictional novels from the perspective of the spiritual battle between God and fallen angels, with story telling revolving around the Nephilim in the Bible (known in the books as The Watchers).

Lots of creative liberty with these stories, but I like how it doesnt make Noah and those around him as weak kind of sissy-like personalities but as more of a rugged guy and someone who built an ark with his family.

Lots of twists and turns and really great descriptions of the Nephilim and also a perspective on the deception of the devil and his ultimate goal of seeding deception in those who are not interested in seeking truth but comfort in life.

So these are my three book recommendations for guys to consider with lots of short chapters and engaging stories to help in all areas of your life.
